A Micimackó Óvoda a Tatabánya - Újváros városrész egyik legrégebbi intézménye. Építése idején a környező lakóházak – az akkor új lakásokkal – fiatal bányászcsaládoknak adott otthont. Eredetileg 6 csoportra tervezték, de a növekvő igények miatt kialakítottak az emeleti teraszból egy csoportszobát. Egy ideig az intézmény tagóvodával (II. sz. Óvoda) üzemelt. A gyermeklétszám csökkenése azonban a két intézmény összevonását eredményezte 1988-ban. 1995-ig az intézmény 8 csoporttal üzemelt. 1995-2009-ig önállóan, 2009 óta a Kodály Zoltán Óvoda telephelye.
Gyermeklétszám 2020-ban 162 fő hat csoportban.
